How to Pair FireStick Remote in 1-Minute [All Fire TV Versions]

If you agree to let me talk about my Roku experience, I will tell you how to pair your Fire Stick Remote in only a minute and how to do it for all Fire TV versions.

If you are a FireStick user and have a Fire TV device, you have probably noticed that pairing the remote control to your device is not as easy as it is with devices like Xbox 360 or Apple TV, or even Chromecast. In fact, you may have faced some problems while trying to pair because of the Fire TV remote’s limited functions. That’s why we have prepared this post on how to pair FireStick Remote in 1-Minute. This tutorial will help you pairing FireStick Remote to Fire TV in just a few steps.

The FireStick is an amazing little device that allows you to stream all your favorite media to your TV over your WiFi network. It’s basically a $35 streaming dongle that allows you to access the Fire TV app on your TV, giving you access to all the best media content from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Now, and more. However, the FireStick requires a little setup in order for you to get the best experience. Here’s how you can get the most out of your FireStick.

In this post, I will show you how to pair a FireStick remote. This guide applies to remotes for the Amazon FireStick 2nd Generation, FireStick 4K, Fire TV Cube and most older Fire TV devices. I have also provided additional steps to disconnect existing remotes if you need to do so for any reason. I also included steps to sync the FireStick remote with the TV’s controls (on/off and volume).

If for some reason your Fire TV Stick remote can’t be paired, or if you bought a new remote that needs to be paired, you can easily do this.

In some cases, the remote controls are automatically linked to the FireStick. In some cases, they must be matched manually.

Message: You can check out my other post if your Firestick remote doesn’t work at all.

In this guide, I have tried to cover all possible remote linking scenarios. If you think I missed something, please let me know in the comment box below.

Attention FireStick users!

Governments and ISPs are constantly monitoring your online activities, and accessing copyrighted content on your Fire TV Stick can cause serious problems. Your IP is currently visible to everyone. I highly recommend you to buy the best FireStick VPN to hide your IP address and transfer your favorite games safely.

Personally, I use ExpressVPN, the fastest and most secure VPN on the market. Not only is it easy to install on any device, but it also comes with a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee. And if you are not 100% satisfied, you can always get your money back. ExpressVPN is also currently offering an additional 3 months free for an annual plan!

Here are the reasons why using a VPN is essential at all times.

Pairing a FireStickRemote Control

There are many scenarios in which you may need to pair a FireStick remote with the device. Let’s look at each case individually.

Message: Make sure you have inserted the batteries into the remote control.

1. Pairing remote control during FireStick setup

The first time you set up your Amazon FireStick after taking it out of the box (or after resetting it), you must pair the FireStick remote.

The first thing you need to do is pair your remote so you can continue with the installation process.

To pair the Amazon Fire TV Stick, you will be prompted to press the Play/Pause button on the remote during setup (see image below).

It’s that simple.

2. Pairing the replacement/new remote control

If the original remote control is damaged or no longer works, you must purchase a replacement/new remote control.

Before you can use your new remote control, you must pair it with your device. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Unplug the Fire Stick from the wall outlet
  2. Insert the batteries in the new remote control
  3. After about a minute, turn on the Fire TV Stick and wait for the home screen to load.
  4. Sometimes a new remote control is automatically paired when it is rebooted. Use the remote control to see if this is the case.
  5. If pairing does not happen automatically, simply hold down the HOME button on the FireStick for 10-20 seconds.
  6. The TV may display a message that the remote control has paired successfully. If the message does not appear or if you miss it, try using the remote control to see if it works.

To pair a new or replacement remote control.

3. Linking a second optional FireStick remote control

You can use multiple remote controls with the Amazon FireStick. This can be useful if your remote isn’t very good, but you’re not ready to give it up yet. At the same time, you want to have a more effective remote control at your fingertips.

The steps for pairing a second or additional remote with the FireStick are described below:

1. Go to the Fire Stick home screen

2. Select Settings from the menu bar

3. On the next screen, select and click on Bluetooth Controllers and Devices.

4. In the next window, click Amazon Fire TV Remotes.

5. In this screen, select Add a new remote control

6. Your Fire TV Stick starts searching for a new remote control

You must press and hold the Home button on the new remote for at least 10 seconds.

7. Once the new remote control is recognized, press the SELECT button (middle button) on the old remote to confirm pairing with the new remote.

Check that the new remote control is paired by trying to use it.

Disconnecting the FireStickRemote Control

To use your remote with another FireStick device, you must first disconnect it from your existing device.

There are two scenarios to consider:

  1. Use only one remote control with an existing device
  2. You are using 2 remote controls with an existing device

Let’s look at the two cases

1. You are using a single remote control with an existing.

If you are using only one remote control, you cannot use it to disconnect. However, it can be disconnected if you want to use it with another FireStick device.

If both Fire Stick devices are within range of the remote, you must disconnect the existing device the remote is paired with. When the FireStick is on, you cannot disconnect it from the remote.

Now use one of the pairing methods described above to pair the remote with another device.

2.  You are using 2 remote controls with an existing.

If you’re using two remotes with the same Fire TV and you want to disconnect one, just do it with the other remote.

Perform the following steps:

1. From the FireStick home screen, go to Settings

2. Open the Bluetooth controllers and devices option

3. Press Amazon Fire TV remotes

4. Select the FireStick you want to disconnect

Press the 3-line menu button on the other remote (pressing the button on the remote you want to disconnect from the pair does not work).

5. Press the Select button on the other remote control.

Here you can see how to disconnect the FireStick if you are using two remotes. You can now use an unpaired remote with any other Fire Stick or Fire TV device.

The new FireStick and Fire TV remotes have basic TV controls. On the remote control you will find the following TV buttons synchronized to your TV’s IR profile:

  • Power button
  • Volume up/down button
  • Mute button

Again, these buttons do not control your FireStick. They sync up with your television.

In most cases, the TV buttons are automatically linked to the TV. But sometimes you have to do it manually.

If the TV buttons do not work, follow the steps below:

1. On the Home screen, select Fire Stick settin

2. Material management

3. On the next screen, choose Maintain Hardware

4. In this window, click on the TV button

5. Select the option Change TV

6. Click Change TV when prompted

7. Wait!

8. When the FireStick has detected the TV, press YES.

If no, press NO

9. If you clicked on NO above, you will be asked to choose your TV brand. Do this and follow the on-screen instructions to set the TV’s controls.
